Problem to Solve

It’s hard for students to sell their furniture safely.

Solution

Provide a service to trade between students within a convenient distance.

User Research

Identify people that have this problem.

  1. Undergraduate student who lives in furnished USC housing

  2. Upperclassman who lives off-campus with group of housemates

  3. Graduate student or alumnus who lives in unfurnished off-campus housing

  4. Graduating student who lives in unfurnished off-campus housing

Conduct interviews using Zoom to learn about specific needs in buying and selling furniture.

Based on our interviews, our candidates expressed concerns about finding transportation to buy the goods. They didn’t feel secure about making a purchase from someone who they didn’t know. Storytelling tools based on the interviews helped guide our expectations.

Personas

Wireframes

We planned which pages needed to be created, and laid out the shapes and places where components would go. We filled them out with images, buttons and colors.

Reflections

I knew how to write complex programs, but I didn’t know how my products translate to users. Learning User Experience design filled that gap. Users behaved differently than I expected. Learning how to draw components seemed hard, but it was easy when I followed tutorials. Building prototypes helped me obtain feedback about my team’s idea quickly.
